Why am I running?

The next four years are going to be critical for Chatham-Kent and beyond, and I would like to be part of the team that helps steer our municipality through them. You may recognize my name from years of writing newspaper columns for the now defunct Chatham This Week. If not, I hope you’ll get to know me throughout the course of this campaign.

What you can expect from me…

One reason I’ve decided to put my name forward in this election is that I’m frustrated by ‘anti-campaigns,’ and want to be a part of moving our community forward.

I’ve had my frustrations with the current municipal council and I’ve been an outspoken critic, as well as an advocate of some of the decisions made.

However, I also believe the time for criticism is before a decision is made and that very little is to be gained by pretending a new council – even a completely new one – would be able to overturn previous decisions that you or I might be unhappy with.

You can expect a respectful campaign from me, and if elected, I will work hard to ensure that I fully understand the issues before us and the impacts, both positive and negative, they will have on local residents.

I have always believed I’m very much the average person, which helps inform the opinions I hold and the decisions I make.

By scrolling through this website, I hope you’ll get a pretty good idea of who I am, what I’ve done career-wise and the vision I hold for Chatham-Kent as a whole, and Ward 7 in particular.

If you have unanswered questions, please feel free to EMAIL ME, and who knows, maybe you’ll see your question/concerns on my Q&A page!

What you shouldn’t expect from me…

I am planning to run a straightforward and simple campaign.

You may or may not be aware than back in 2014, I ran unsuccessfully as a candidate for Ward 6, which of course was Chatham before it was converted into the three wards we have today.

At the time, I didn’t think I would ever run again and one of my biggest regrets at the time was spending money on election signs. Even though I didn’t have a large number, I was uncomfortable with the environmental impact they would have. I won’t be doing that this time.

If you feel so inclined, you can download a small 8.5 x 11 inch window sign by clicking HERE.

I won’t be engaging on a lot of social media outside of my own Facebook campaign page and this website.

Frankly, I believe my time can be better spent elsewhere, and I’d rather focus on one-on-one discussions, so please feel free to EMAIL ME at any time.

You shouldn’t expect overly diplomatic responses from me as I discovered during my previous campaign run that I’m not good at that, and I wasn’t happy with myself on those rare occasions that I was.

My opinions are fact-based and are subject to change. I like to have all the pertinent information when it comes to the various issues before council, so don’t expect snap answers if I need more time to sift through the information.
